Closeness of the Moon

This illustration was inspired by Italo Calvino’s short story “The Distance of the Moon,” from his collection Cosmicomics. I call it “The Closeness of the Moon” as a play on that title — because as it drifts away from the Earth, it always comes back.

The original ink illustration was completed using a stippling technique, building the illusion of form and depth from small dots.
